Services
Howard Insurance Services is a local independent insurance broker based in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. Collectively, our team has been working in insurance services for over 100 years. In that time, we've helped countless businesses from many sectors find the right insurance policy. We pride ourselves on being a company that our customers can trust and rely on.
If you use your car for work, for anything other than a commute, you are likely to require specialist commercial motor insurance to get the right level of cover. Working alongside our specialist partner insurance companies, we can arrange insurance for a wide range of commercial vehicles in order to create a policy that's suited to your business.
Whether you're self-employed or running a larger contracting enterprise, finding suitable insurance can be a complicated process. Based on the type and nature of work you and your employees undertake, our specialist team can advise you on the type of cover that will work best for you. We offer policies for both sole tradesmen and larger contractors with high turnovers.
Directors' and officers' liability insurance (D&O) from Howard Insurance will provide financial protection against action taken by employees, shareholders and other interested parties. Those working in a position of responsibility operate in a difficult corporate environment. Mistakes inevitably happen in the course of running any business, potentially affecting shareholders, employees and others, any of whom may pursue action against you. In the event of a successful claim, the director may be personally subject to pay hefty legal costs.

For 2 years I took out an insurance policy with Howard. In 2010 my policy ran out so when I went to renew it the man was very helpful and allowed me to choose the day I wanted my new policy to begin, the cost was 126. The following year I visited Howard Insurance on Friday 28th October 2011 and another man (Andrew Winnifrith I think his name was) said he would look into it.
Next thing I knew, I got a letter informing me that it was agreed with the insurers and my new policy was to begin on 21st October 2011. One week earlier. That was one whole week of unused policy which was no use to me and a waste of money! I emailed the Andrew Winnifrith and asked very politely if I could forward the date of the policy (as I was allowed to do that the previous year with no problems) for obvious reasons.
His reply was "I'm afraid not. We have already agreed this with our insurers and you did not mention it when you visited our office. I can cancel it if you wish but I am not prepared to start another one." This is very rude and bad customer service. I was going to be charged 145 + 10 administration costs. But because of Andrew Winnifrith's bad attitude I told him to cancel my policy and I will go elsewhere.
I went to Direct Line who charged me 55 for the exact same insurance. Direct Line have also charged me the exact same amount this year. Had I been stupid enough to stay with Howard Insurance it would probably have cost me more than 200 extra. I'm very glad Andrew Winnifrith was so rude to me because he saved me a lot of money.
