It all started way back in 1936 when Howson Foulger Devitt started an innovative scheme insuring motorcycles through motorcycle dealers. This meant that riders could buy their bike and ride it away that very same day, fully covered.
Howson had started his career insurance broking at Lloyd’s in London, but the Devitt family began their business journey in shipping broking and insurance, with Devitt & Moore, some 100 years earlier in 1836, jointly owned by Howson’s grandfather, Thomas Henry Devitt.
Over the years since Devitt began insuring motorbikes, many things have changed. Devitt has been bought and sold numerous times. They have been owned by household names such as Churchill and RBS, but we are now the largest privately owned motorcycle insurance specialist in the UK. We look after the insurance interests of over 120,000 customers and work with some of the UK’s leading underwriters and brands.

Yamaha R3 vs Kawasaki Ninja 400 Ride Review | Keep Britain Biking
The A2 licence class has never been more important – or more interesting. We took two of the best – Kawasaki’s 2019 Ninja 400 and the 2019 Yamaha YZF-R3 – for a couple of weeks daily riding around London and the South-East. We compare everything from performance, to top speed, to price, to find out which bike is best. How did we get on? Let’s find out…
At a time when the popularity of sportsbikes is at an all-time low throughout most of Europe, the re-introduction of cheap-but-desirable small-bore sports machines could be seen as something of a faux pas. Just build more naked and adventure machines shurely?
But then it could also be seen as an inspired move; a way to stir the loins of the millennial A2 licence-holder in much the same way the four-cylinder 400cc screamers offered 1990s riders a ticket into the then-popular race replica market, without the need to sell a kidney to cover the insurance on a 600 or 750. Add in the global advantages of building them cheaply in today’s developing markets, then also selling them to upwardly-mobile riders there, and you have a sure-fire winner (in theory at least…)

Didn't have to go through a comparison website like I normally have to with other insurance companies. Devitt's renewal quote this year was actually a few pounds cheaper than last year! It may be just me but I've never encountered this before as normally my renewal quotes are increased massively even without any claims. I understand that quotes usually increase but not by the percentages other companies increase them by. Hat's off to you Devitt for saving me time and effort on the phone having to haggle the renewal quote. I'll be staying again next year if you do the same!

My normal experience with car and motorcycle insurance policy renewals is painful: Receive renewal notice, check quote on comparison website, ring insurer and ask them to match cheaper offers (including those from themselves on the comparison website), change insurer, provide proof of NCD, respond to request from previous insurer asking why I hadn't used their services again. This year no such problem. The renewal was c20% less than last year which seemed fair enough to me so I didn't bother checking elsewhere.

I have been with Devitt insurance for quite a few years now. I had a Bike accident a few years ago and they were brilliant. They provided me with another bike that i could use on a short term basis until mine was repaired and dealt with my claim in a professional way. I would definitely recommend them.

I can honestly state that Devitt are the first insurance company where my quote for the subsequent year was actually cheaper than that for the year previous. Just over 71 is a great price for a 1000cc V twin motorbike. I insure for TPFT, as the bike is 18 years old and would likely be written off in the event of even a minor accident, and nowadays I only ride from April to September.

Very straightforward process to get up and running with the new policy and very happy with the price and content. Cover has all the bits we like such as riding another bike with permissions and so on and good value on the optionals like breakdown, etc. So far, very happy. Hopefully I wont need to make a claim, touch wood, but the contact process has been pretty painless so far :

This is my 2nd insurance in this country, and I can say that they are much better in comparison to the ones I had in my motorbikes before. They were 5 or 6 different insurance I used before Devitt. I am happy so far with quote and the cover on my moto and me. I just add RAC to my insurance policy, in case of a engine problem or flat tyre, you need to have RAC because never know when or if you going to get stranded on the road.

Quick easy transaction. Always informed about any changes or offers which could help with my insurance. Good balance with price compare to the others in the market. Online account, which is much easy to communicate or do any changes. Customer service team always ready to help. Hope I will never need to call in apart than add EU travel or renew for another year.
